Planning a trip to Perth? To help you make the most of your time, I’ve put together a list for you. Here is my Top 10 Places to Visit when Travelling to Perth:

  1. Kings Park & Botanic Garden – One of the world’s largest inner-city parks, with sweeping views over the Swan River and city skyline, plus beautiful native gardens.
  2. Elizabeth Quay – Perth’s lively waterfront hub, perfect for dining, river cruises, public art, and taking in the Swan River at its most vibrant.
  3. Cottesloe Beach – Famous for its white sand, turquoise waters, and sunsets over the Indian Ocean.
  4. Fremantle (Freo) – A historic port city full of Victorian architecture, bustling markets, craft breweries, and the iconic Fremantle Prison (UNESCO site).
  5. Swan River – Central to Perth’s identity; enjoy a river cruise, kayaking, or walking the foreshore for unforgettable views.
  6. Perth Zoo – Located in South Perth, it’s home to native Australian wildlife and exotic animals, with lush parkland to explore.
  7. Rottnest Island (Rotto) – A short ferry from Perth, famous for its stunning beaches, cycling trails, and the friendly quokkas.
  8. Swan Valley – Western Australia’s oldest wine region, offering boutique wineries, breweries, gourmet food, and scenic drives just 30 minutes from the city.

My Perfect Perth – 3 Day Itinerary (but it is jammed packed)

Perth’s city culture, natural beauty, beaches, Indigenous wildlife, and wine country in just 3 days.

Day 1 – City & River Highlights

  • Morning: Start at Kings Park & Botanic Garden. Walk up to the Fraser Avenue Lookout, for the picturesque views over the Swan River and back towards the CBD. Whilst you are there wander through the native gardens.
  • Late Morning: Walk down to the Elizabeth Quay foreshore for coffee and a riverside stroll. Cross the Elizabeth Quay Bridge and admire the Spanda sculpture.
  • Afternoon: Take a Swan River cruise to Fremantle, enjoying commentary and city views along the way.
  • Evening: Explore Fremantle’s historic streets, have dinner at one of its lively breweries or restaurants, and visit the Fremantle Markets if it’s a weekend.

Day 2 – Beaches & Island Adventure

  • Morning: Catch a ferry from Perth or Fremantle to Rottnest Island (Rotto). Hire a bike to explore its stunning bays and beaches, and don’t miss a selfie with a smiling quokka.
  • Afternoon: Swim, snorkel, or relax at The Basin or Pinky Beach before returning on the ferry.
  • Evening: Stop at Cottesloe Beach on the way back for fish and chips by the water and one of Perth’s famous Indian Ocean sunsets.

Day 3 – Wildlife, History & Wine

  • Morning: Visit the Perth Zoo in South Perth to see native wildlife in naturalistic habitats. Alternatively, head north to AQWA (Aquarium of Western Australia) at Hillarys to explore WA’s marine life.
  • Afternoon: Take a trip to the Swan Valley wine region (30 mins from the city) for wine tastings, craft beer, and gourmet food experiences.
  • Late Afternoon: Return to Perth and stop at the Perth Mint to watch a gold pour and learn about WA’s gold rush history.
  • Evening: Finish your trip with dinner at Elizabeth Quay or one of the riverside restaurants overlooking the city lights.
